Nature Does Nothing Uselessly

Recently, a few friends and I took a camping trip to Turner Falls Oklahoma. Okay, I’ll be honest, we did not actually camp, we had a cabin that was; air conditioned, had running water, and a microwave. The couple of days we spent exploring Turner Falls and the small town of Davis, Oklahoma were a lot of fun.

Spring semester is almost over, only six more weeks to go, so it was nice to get away from the computers and distractions that come with life back in Norman. I am not an outdoors person, I like the Internet, air conditioning, and Netflixs. But Turner Falls and the town of Davis, Oklahoma was a nice break from reality.

Both evenings we built fires and roasted smores. On Saturday afternoon, we went to the Arbuckle Wilderness (where you get to feed animals out of your car….CRAZY) and went hiking. Both were enjoyable. Especially, the hike we went on was so quite and peaceful. Often in life, we get distracted by our busy schedules that we sweat the small stuff and do not appreciate the simplest things, like nature. Turner Falls was a sweet reminder to slow down life. Appreciate everything and when challenges come my way, overcoming the challenges does not always have to be done with the perfect solution.

So I guess they call it the “Great Outdoors” for a reason. Nature really does put me and my perceptions of this life into perspective.
